BSU’s Scott Carpenter earns statewide honor
BONITA SPRINGS, Fla. (Aug. 23, 2011) – The Florida Water and Pollution Control Operators Association has honored Scott Carpenter of Bonita Springs Utilities Inc. with the 2011 Dr. A. P. Black Award. The award recognizes outstanding personal performance.
Carpenter, a licensed operator in both water and wastewater, was nominated for his work in improving the efficiency of BSU’s plant operations.
Carpenter joined BSU in 2004 as a trainee. He earned several licenses and certifications, and completed the classes needed to work in each of BSU’s water and wastewater treatment facilities.
Carpenter previously was named 2009 Outstanding Water Treatment Operator by the Florida Section of the American Water Works Association and earned Operator of the Year honors in 2008 from the Southeast Desalting Association. Black was a key participant in the development of operator training in the State of Florida, organizing the first short course in 1930. A pioneer in the design of water treatment systems, Black was honored for his contributions to the field of water purification and distribution.
Members of FWPCOA are engaged in the production, treatment and distribution of drinking water; the collection, treatment and disposal of wastewater; and/or the collection and treatment of storm water. The organization works to protect the health of citizens and preserve natural resources.
