BSU member-customers return incumbents to the board of directors

BONITA SPRINGS, Fla. (March 16, 2011) – Paul Attwood, Frank Liles and John Mathes were re-elected for another three-year term on the Bonita Springs Utilities Inc. board of directors. Election results were announced during BSU’s annual meeting March 15. Each of the three received from 44.6 to 59 percent of the votes; four challengers each garnered from 25 to 39 percent. Nearly 21,700 ballots were mailed to member-customers of the not-for-profit utility, and 4,608 valid ballots were returned.
Attwood, a professional geologist, has been a board member since 2001, Liles is the most senior member on the board, serving since 1986; he is a retired service technician for Embarq. Mathes has been a board member since 1990 and owns Mathes Realty and Mathes Realty Appraisal.
    BSU member-customers elect three fellow members each year for a three-year term on the utility’s nine-member board of directors. The board of directors meets at 5 p.m. on the first and third Tuesdays of each month. In addition, each board member serves on various subcommittees and work groups, devoting from 10 to 60 hours a month working with the utility’s management and staff.
    Other board members are Bob Bachman, Hank Hochstetler, Dave McKee, Steve McIntosh, Robert Sharkey and Jim Strecansky.
    Bonita Springs Utilities is a water and wastewater utility founded by local citizens in 1971. Today, the member-owned utility serves more than 40,000 homes and businesses in a 60-square-mile area. For more information, visit the BSU website at www.BSU.us.

Water Conservation
The South Florida Water Management District is a regional governmental agency that oversees the water resources in the southern half of the state, covering 16 counties from Orlando to the Florida Keys and serving a population of 7.5 million residents.
