BSU celebrated a great milestone during 2007 with the opening of the East Water Reclamation Facility. Designed to be expanded as our area’s wastewater volume increases, this is the last piece of major infrastructure the utility needs to serve the Bonita Springs area through buildout. Not only was the project completed on time and within budget, but it also uses some of the most advanced technology in the field of wastewater treatment: membrane bioreactors and thermal drying.
The East Water Reclamation Facility was the most expensive project ever undertaken by BSU, and your board of directors faced many complicated issues and tough decisions during its planning, design and construction. We are happy with the results and confident that our community will enjoy the benefits for decades to come. The performance of the completed facility is all that we had hoped, and we are particularly proud when other utilities visit to see this state-of-the-art facility for themselves.
During 2007, BSU continued to expand the central-sewer system and eliminated 188 septic tanks, part of an ongoing effort to protect the quality of our water resources and provide sewer service to densely populated parts of our service area. We also began construction of an Operations Service Center, adjacent to the East Water Reclamation Facility. The center will consolidate our equipment and staff and improve efficiency.
The nine members of the board of directors are, like you, member-customers of our not-for-profit utility. Be assured that their highest priority is to provide the best possible service to you, your family and your neighbors. This mission guides the board’s every decision, both routine and momentous, and helps prepare BSU for the future. |
