PRIMED FOR GROWTH
The Bonita Springs Utilities board of directors and staff revisited our mission statement as part of long-range planning during 2004. We agreed that the simple statement is still appropriate and relevant. What’s not simple is the work required to fulfill the mission.
One of the biggest challenges facing your utility, as well as the entire region, is growth. While many of us wonder how long the Southwest Florida boom can last, most have come to accept that growth particularly in Bonita Springs is inevitable. The challenge is forecasting the rate and locations of that growth in order to meet the biggest challenge of all: being ready for it.
Your board of directors has taken a progressive stance in planning and preparing for growth, rather than responding to it. BSU works hard to provide adequate, quality services to our member-customers, both those who have been in Bonita Springs many years and those who are moving to the area. Our rates and fees are designed to be fair to all, while funding the maintenance and necessary improvements to our existing system as well as the construction of new infrastructure.
Last year we brought the reverse osmosis facility on line. After a planned expansion, this plant, in combination with our traditional water-treatment facility, will produce enough water to meet the needs of Bonita Springs through build out. In 2005, we begin construction of a new water reclamation facility that will have the capacity, in tandem with our current facility, to handle all the wastewater produced by our community when it is fully developed.
Both facilities use state-of-the-art, proven technology that makes the best possible use of our water resources and safeguards our region’s environment. We encourage you to do your part through responsible water use.
