COMMITTED TO SERVICE
During 2004, Bonita Springs Utilities celebrated the completion of its reverse-osmosis water-treatment facility. Planning and financing this important project was an intimidating task: this was new technology for BSU, and it carried a $41 million price tag.
Building the RO plant has proved to be a great move. The facility has worked exceptionally well and has increased BSU’s water-production capacity by two-thirds. In fact, enough water was produced during 2004 to not only meet the peak demands of our member-customers but also to sell surpluses to neighboring utilities.
During 2005, BSU will begin construction of its second water reclamation facility, which will provide the infrastructure needed to treat the wastewater generated by Bonita Springs through buildout. The scope of this project is even larger than the RO plant. Permitting for the project was challenging, and the myriad of design, purchasing and operational decisions is tremendous.
Fortunately, BSU has a dedicated, qualified staff, guided by an experienced board of directors. In fact, the nine board members have a collective 125 years of board service, which provides the continuity and expertise to make wise decisions for the benefit of our member-customers, the community and the utility.
We are pleased to move ahead with the construction of this new facility during 2005, another step in providing quality service for our current and future member-customers.
