2004 WORK IN
PROGRESS
- The technology of telemetry – equipment that allows the utility to monitor operations from a remote location – is being upgraded to improve the ability to detect problems and shorten response times.
BSU’s reverse osmosis water treatment facility, scheduled to open in spring 2004, removes salt from brackish water drawn from deeper in the ground than the current water plant, which taps into a shallower water source that is subject to floods and droughts. The facility will have a daily processing capacity of 6 million gallons. Its treated water will be blended with traditionally treated water before being piped to BSU customers. The new facility is designed to be expanded to a 12 million-gallon-per-day capacity; combined with the existing water treatment plant, it will allow BSU to eventually produce 20 million gallons of water per day – enough to meet the needs of the utility’s service area at build out.
-
Water service will be provided to approximately 35 homesites in the Sun Village subdivision.
- Permitting and planning will continue for the utility’s second water reclamation facility, which will be built on a 165-acre site east of I-75. The planned facility is designed to treat up to 12 million gallons of wastewater per day. In combination with the existing plant’s 6 million-gallon-per-day capacity, it will meet the needs of Bonita Springs as development continues.
